The Department of Food Science has a proud history on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, dating back to 1893 when the department was formed under the name of Dairy Husbandry.

The Department of Food Science is unique because in addition to its excellent research, teaching, and extension activities, the Department of Food Science is the academic home to the Babcock Hall Dairy Plant and the Wisconsin Center for Dairy Research.
